Janet's Story

Janet was living life happily with her husband David on the day cancer blew into their lives.  When they heard the doctor say, "You have cancer," Janet says it knocked the wind out of them.  David says he heard the words "with every cell of my body."  She would be diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer with metastasis to the liver.

In her journey, Janet has faced really hard treatment with 3 surgeries (one for a cancer brain tumor), 2 radiation sessions and 3 chemo regimens.   But Janet met cancer with a desire to control a part of her world and to look at "something beautiful" so she expressed her artistic talent in making gorgeous quilts, many of which she gives to those in need.

For his part, David started a "Janet's Army" Facebook page where he posts their journey to social media for positive prayerful support.  Prayer has played a huge part in their journey - from their Facebook page to prayer at every church services and from the many who know and love them.   Janet joined our Oregon Cancer with Compassion support group soon after the pandemic and has been a faithful member ever since.  Janet and David's relationship has become a testimony to marriage in the fire of cancer.  You may watch their "Marriage and Family" video at cancerwithcompassion.com/media.

Ovarian cancer is a particularly difficult cancer with many women not making it to the 5 year mark.  Janet's goal has been to make it to 5 years and beyond.  She will hit the 5th anniversary of her cancer diagnosis this next May.  Your prayers for her are appreciated.
